Are you feeding your plants right? Fertilizer is one of the most misunderstood parts of plant care. From over-fertilizing to skipping it altogether, many well-intentioned plant parents fall for common fertilizer myths that can hinder healthy growth. In this article, we’re debunking the top 5 myths about fertilizer and sharing why organic options, like Arber, are a safer, smarter way to nourish your plants and the planet.
Many people think that more fertilizer equals more growth, but that’s not true. Overdoing it can lead to salt buildup in the soil, damaging plant roots and causing yellowing leaves, stunted growth, or even root burn.
How often should you fertilize plants? For most indoor and outdoor plants, every 2–4 weeks during the growing season is plenty—especially when using a safe, but effective organic plant fertilizer.
Even your favorite houseplants deplete their soil’s nutrients over time. Unlike outdoor soil, which can be replenished naturally, potting soil lacks a sustainable source of nutrients without help.
Organic fertilizers made for indoor plant care, like Arber's Organic Plant Food, deliver essential nutrients safely and effectively, helping your houseplants grow lush, strong, and resilient.
Many synthetic fertilizers contain harmful compounds that can pollute waterways, damage ecosystems, and pose risks to human health through runoff and overuse.
In contrast, organic fertilizers, like Arber’s, are made from naturally derived ingredients that support plant growth without harming the environment. Our formulas are biodegradable, non-toxic, and proven safe for pollinators, pets, and people.
Not all fertilizers are created equal. Many conventional options contain synthetic additives or heavy metals not approved for edible crops. If you're growing herbs, vegetables, or fruits, it’s essential to use a fertilizer safe for edible plants .
Arber’s fertilizers, including the Organic All Purpose Fertilizer, are OMRI-listed for organic use and safe for your edible plants.
While water is vital, it doesn’t provide the nutrients plants need to grow. Over time, even high-quality soil loses its natural nutrient content. Fertilizer replenishes essential elements like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium—fueling healthy roots, vibrant foliage, and blooms. Think of it this way: water keeps your plant alive, but fertilizer helps it thrive.
Don’t fall for fertilizer myths. Feed your plants with confidence using Arber’s organic fertilizers Whether you're growing houseplants, a backyard garden, or edible herbs, Arber's safe, science-backed formulas are designed to nourish plants and the planet.
How often do I use the Organic Bio Insecticide if I already have an infestation?
We recommend first pruning or cleaning the infested areas and regularly removing debris or adult insects from the plants. Then, follow this method by treating your plant with our Organic Bio Insecticide as a foliar spray and a soil drench once every 5 days until the infestation is under control. Once the infestation is under control, we recommend continuing to treat your plant with our Organic Bio Insecticide every 2 weeks for prevention.
How does the Organic Bio Insecticide get rid of bad bugs while keeping good bugs safe?
When Organic Bio Insecticide is applied, the plant becomes inoculated with the naturally occurring bacteria. The pest then feeds on the plant and gets a dose of the bacteria, which stops feeding or molting, then dies naturally. Beneficial insects feed on the pests, but don’t get enough of a lethal dose of the bacteria for it to affect them because it does not have any effect on insects in the Hymenoptera family.
What plants can I use the Organic Bio Insecticide on?
All of our organic formulas are versatile and highly effective on all plants, indoor and outdoor. Including, but not limited to, houseplants, trees, shrubs, flowers, fruits, vegetables, lawn, seedlings, and more!
